Understanding the Device Information

Top  Previous  Next

This section displays the device information as displayed in DiskCheckup's "Device Info" window.

Model Number
The drives model number.

Device Capacity
The total capacity in MB of the device.

Status
Indicates that a drive is "OK" unless:

a) < 10% disk space is available in any of the disk's volumes,

b) Disk temperature is higher than the threshold, or

c) 1 or more SMART value(s) have exceeded a threshold

Device ID
The physical ID of the device.

Interface
The interface used to communicate with the drive.

Serial Number
The drive serial number.

Firmware Rev
The drives current firmware revision.

Partitions
Displays all the volumes that reside on this device and their capacity in MB.

Current Disk Activity
Displays the values of real-time disk performance counters that are refreshed periodically

Disk Read (MB/s)
The current disk read speed in megabytes per second

Disk Write (MB/s)
The current disk write speed in megabytes per second

Disk Total (MB/s)
The current total disk transfer speed (ie. read + write) in megabytes per second

% Disk Time
Reports the percentage of time that the selected disk drive is busy servicing read or write requests.

Avg Disk Latency (ms)
Measures the average time of each data transfer in the most recent sample, regardless of the number of bytes read or written. Shows the total time from the moment it leaves the Diskperf.sys driver to the moment it is complete. A high value for this counter might mean that the system is retrying requests due to lengthy queuing or, less commonly, disk failures.

Disk geometry

 Cylinders
The amount of cylinders on the manufactured drive.

 Tracks per cylinder
The number of tracks per cylinder.

 Sectors per track
The number of sectors per track

 Bytes per sector
The number of bytes per sector

 Total disk sectors
The total number of sectors on the disk

 Logical sector size
The size of each logical sector in bytes

 Physical sector size
The size of each physical sector in bytes

 Media rotation rate
The rotation rate of the drive in RPM or 'Solid State Disk' if the media is non-rotating.

 Buffer Size
The size of the disk subsystems data buffer in KB.

 ECC Size
The size of the Error Correcting Code in bytes

Standards compliance
List of supported/unsupported standards

World Wide ID
A unique 8-byte identifier for the device

Feature support
List of supported/unsupported features of the device
